A division of the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Studies, the Foundation has been developing and funding research since 1984. The Foundation's vision is to improve human health by fostering innovation in medical treatments and advancing biomedical science. For more than 30 years, the Foundation has funded research at six universities across North America including Harvard University, Stanford University, The Scripps Research Institute, New York University Medical Center (NYU), Pennsylvania State University (PSU), and Yale School of Medicine. The Foundation's flagship program is the Transformative Research Awards (TRA), which are given to top scientists early in their careers. These awards are meant to spark creativity and open up new disciplines of biomedical research. Since its launch in 2005, the award has been given to more than 130 exceptional young investigators. The Foundation has also awarded more than 1,000 New Investigators Awards since 1985. The Discovery Grants program provides funding to labs at institutions across the world who are developing new therapies. Funding ranges from $100,000 to $1 million for basic science research. The Foundation's other major programs include the Transformative Research Awards (TRA), The Foundation for Future Generations (FFG), The Van Hengel-Becker Research Award (VHBA), Innovative Research Awards (iRA), The Innovation Center for Life Sciences (CISL) and the Corporate Giving program.
